The fact that Nintendo games systems are still as hard to find in the shops as it was one year ago is proof that it is truly a revolutionary games console. As the PlayStation 3 and the XBox opted for more memory and better graphics, Nintendo went in an entirely different direction.
What makes the Nintendo so unique is the motion sensitive controller that you can swing, point, poke and slash to get different effects in-game. So, for example, if you are playing a tennis game you swing the controller like a racquet to hit the ball.
The basic package contains everything you need to get started. You get your console, a controller, cables and the Sports games package. And at $249 for the lot it is a steal compared to the far more expensive PS3 or XBox.
However, retail price Wii's are hard to come by these days so you will be lucky if you can get one at this price. Also, while the basic package is enough to get you started with the Wii, you really have to invest a little more to get the most out of this console.
